PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 721 new Covid-19 infections on Monday (Dec 19), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 5,018,584 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 718 of Monday's new Covid-19 infections were locally transmitted while there were three imported cases.
The portal also reported that recoveries outpaced new infections for the 12th straight day, with 914 individuals recovering from Covid-19 on Monday.
This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,966,235 since the pandemic began.
KKMNow also reported that there are 15,541 active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia, with 14,812, or 95.3%, observing home quarantine.
A total of 685 people, or 4.4% of active infections, were seeking treatment at hospitals nationwide as at 11.50pm Monday while there were 44 individuals seeking treatment at intensive care units (ICU).
Of those in ICU as at 11.59pm Monday, 21, or 0.1% of active cases, were unventilated while 23 required ventilator support.
The KKMNow portal also reported that Malaysia's overall hospital utilisation rate stood at 62.8% as at 11.59pm Monday, while the ICU utilisation rate was at 63.1%.
The Health Ministry's GitHub data repository, meanwhile, said the country recorded two deaths due to Covid-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 36,808 since the pandemic began.
Johor and Selangor recorded one death each due to Covid-19 on Monday.
