Perak govt mulls surveillance cameras to deter illegal dumping

IPOH: The Perak government may install surveillance cameras at key spots in the state capital to prevent illegal dumping, says local government committee chairman Sandrea Ng.

The Ipoh City Council is currently discussing the installation of these cameras, she added.

"If the plan proceeds, not only will it solve illegal dumping issues but also provide safety in these areas," she said in reply to Steven Chaw (PH-Menglembu) during question time in the state assembly here on Wednesday (Dec 21).

Separately, Ng said the city council would now be collecting rubbish at the Menglembu wet market twice a day.

"Right now, they only collect the waste once a day. The city council has suggested doing it twice, in the morning and evening.

"However, evening traders are blocking the area where the roll-on roll-off (Roro) garbage bins are placed, which makes it hard for garbage trucks to enter," she said.

"If these traders are placed elsewhere, the trucks can come in," she told Chaw.

Meanwhile, Hafez Sabri (PN-Manjoi) suggested placing Roro bins at strategic locations to address the illegal dumping issue.

Ng said the state government would consider the suggestion.

"Illegal dumping is a crucial matter that needs to be resolved immediately. We will take all the suggestions brought up today and will pick the best options," she added.
