Batang Kali landslide: Four bodies found under seven metres of soil


HULU SELANGOR:The bodies of the latest four victims were discovered under seven metres of soil at Sector C (Riverside) of the Father's Organic Farm landslide site in Batang Kali.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Suffian Abdullah said the bodies were discovered at about 11.04am on Thursday (Dec 22).

"The four bodies - a male and female child along with male and female adults were discovered in one camp. The bodies were intact but had started to decompose," he told reporters at the landslide site on Thursday.

The bodies had been sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for post-mortem and identification, he said.

"We cannot confirm yet whether all of them are from the same family as the identification process has not been done," he added.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation will continue to focus on Sector A (Hillview) and Sector C, Supt Suffian said.

"We are praying for positive leads and developments today so that the three remaining victims can be found," he said.

On the discovery of the bodies of a man and a woman on Wednesday (Dec 21), Supt Suffian both had been identified and claimed by their respective families.

"I can confirm that one of the victims belonged to the family that lodged a police report over the missing victims," he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said the SAR started at about 7.30am on Thursday.

"It involved 128 personnel, 11 excavators and seven K9 dogs.

"We got the initial leads on the location of the four bodies at about 10am.

"We were able to retrieve them using excavators as well as the K-9 dogs," he said.

He also confirmed that personnel from the Armed Forces and the police's General Operations Force were dispatched to the nearby river to check whether victims have drifted there.
