Batang Kali landslide: Search ops for final victim suspended due to bad weather, to resume 8am Dec 23

BATANG KALI: The search and rescue operation for the final victim of the tragic landslide at the Father's Organic Farm Campsite on Dec 16 was suspended at 8pm Thursday (Dec 22) following bad weather.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Suffian Abdullah said the search would resume at 8am Friday (Dec 23), but it would depend on the weather.

In the tragedy that occured at 2.42am on Dec 16, a total of 61 survivors were rescued while 30 victims were found dead and one is still missing out of the 92 reported victims.

On Thursday, the search and rescue operation entered its seventh day and found four victims - an adult male, an adult female and two children - at a depth of 7m in sector C at 11.04am.

Heavy rain since the evening forced the operation to be suspended temporarily due to safety concerns and also to allow geologist to study the soil movements.

In a press conference earlier Thursday, police confirmed that the total number of victims was 92 and not 94 as announced earlier.

Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said authorities determined the number of victims to be 92 after multiple checks on the registrations at the farm as well as police reports lodged over missing family members. - Bernama
