Batang Kali landslide: Search now focussing on single sector


HULU SELANGOR: The search and rescue operation at the Batang Kali landslide will now focus on a single sector, says the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

In a statement on Friday (Dec 23), the department said that they had been concentrating their efforts on sector C (riverside) on the eighth day of the search operation.

However, they said that after nine hours of searching on Friday, they had not found anuything new but would continue the operation unless weather conditions worsen.

The operation on Friday (Dec 23) involved 90 personnel, the use of nine excavators and nine rescue dogs from the K-9 unit.

The department also shared a breakdown of locations where victims had been found.

Sector A (hillview) had the most number of victims with 19, followed by Sector C (riverside) with 10 and one in Sector B (farmview) for a total of 30 victims.

The department also said that they had dug through 70% of the debris on average in each sector.

The final missing victim, an 11-year-old boy, has yet to be recovered.

The tragedy took place at Father's Organic Farm campsite here on Dec 16 at 2.42am.
