Fire chief out of hospital – and straight to disaster site

HULU SELANGOR: Datuk Norazam Khamis, who suffered a minor stroke on Monday, was discharged from hospital – and went straight to the landslide site at Father’s Organic Farm.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director said he went to the site to give moral support to personnel involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

“I was discharged today so I decided to come here to give some support,” he told reporters at the operation centre.

Norazam also thanked everyone who wished him well when he was at Hospital Selayang.

“I am grateful for all the wishes,” he said.

In a statement yesterday, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said there were no signs of a repeat of the stroke that saw Norazam warded.

“He will be working from home and has been assigned to light duty, monitoring search and rescue work remotely,” the statement said.

Norazam had been at the site of Fathers Organic Farm landslide at Batang Kali since the disaster was reported to the authorities in the wee hours of Friday morning.

He was rushed to hospital on Monday evening after suffering the stroke.
