KOTA KINABALU: Firemen came to the rescue of 25 holidaymakers at a resort in Sabah's northern Kota Belud who were stranded after they were caught in floodwaters that had submerged a road.

Spokesman for the state Fire and Rescue Services Department said that all the victims were moved to a higher ground at a nearby homestay during the 6am incident on Friday (Dec 23).

The spokesman said that the victims - five men and 20 women - in six vehicles could not pass through the flooded road around a resort in Kg Melangkap Baru, Kota Belud.

"Their cars could not pass through. On inspecting the situation, our men advised the victims to go to a safer place.

"They then helped the victims out of the area," the spokesman said.

All 25 victims were safely evacuated and placed temporarily in a nearby homestay and were later picked up by the victims' family members.

The flood situation had been improving since 9am but the victim's six vehicles remained trapped in the area, the spokesman said, adding that their operations ended at about 8am.
