Gas facility tariffs to be reduced for 2023-2025

PUTRAJAYA: Gas facility charges will be reduced for the second regulatory period beginning Jan 1, 2023, to Dec 31, 2025, says Rafizi Ramli.

The Economy Minister said the Cabinet agreed to this in its Dec 21 meeting.

"I hope the reduction in gas facility tariffs will assist the industry to face sudden increases in costs and it will translate to other efforts to control the increase in cost of living for the people," he said.

He also said the decrease in tariffs in the second regulatory period would bring about savings in terms of energy costs to industries.

Rafizi said depending on the volume of gas consumption, the delivery segment (based on consumer category) would see savings of between RM5.5mil and RM33.2mil for consumers next year.

The distribution segment (depending on consumer, residential, commercial or industry categories), he said, would see savings between RM4,000 to RM55.9mil next year.

Rafizi was speaking during a press conference at the Economic Planning Unit's (EPU) office in Putrajaya on Friday (Dec 23).

The new tariffs for gas facilities in the second regulatory period from Jan 1 next year till Dec 31 2025 involves four gas facility providers, namely Regas Terminal (Sg Udang) Sdn Bhd (RGTSU); Pengerang LNG (Two) Sdn Bhd (RGTP), transmission pipelines owned by Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) and a distribution pipeline owned by Gas Malaysia Distribution Sdn Bhd (GMD).
