Batang Kali landslide: SAR ops for final victim to focus on Sector A (Hillview)


HULU SELANGOR: Search and rescue (SAR) operations at Father's Organic Farm landslide site will focus on Sector A (Hillview) on Saturday (Dec 24).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said a total of 80 personnel are involved in the operation, which began at 7.30am.

"The agencies involved on the ninth day of operation are the Fire and Rescue Department, the Armed Forces, the Civil Defence Force and Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART).

"We will focus on Sector A," he said when contacted on Saturday.

The recce team entered the area at 7.30am to assess the soil structure, he added.

"The K9 team was dispatched before the SAR entered ground zero to begin the operation.

"We are still searching for one remaining victim of the landslide," he said.

The landslide tragedy, which occurred at the Father's Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya, Batang Kali, at 2.42am on Dec 16, has claimed 30 lives, with one still missing. Another 61 survived the ordeal.
