PETALING JAYA: Fahmi Fadzil says issues over the sale of Menara Kuala Lumpur (MKL) deserve scrutiny.
The Communications and Digital Minister said issues over the takeover of MKL by Telekom Malaysia (TM) through its subsidiary Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd had been raised on social media.
"I have received a detailed briefing regarding the KL Tower management by the Communications and Digital Ministry on Dec 14," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 27).
He said the ministry would monitor the issue and was prepared to cooperate fully should authorities decide to investigate the matter.
He added that he would be given another briefing on the matter by Telekom Malaysia on Jan 3, 2023.
"I have been made to understand that the concession of MKL's management is currently in its third interim term until Dec 31, 2022, by MKLSB," he said.
Allegations have surfaced on social media recently that Telekom had allegedly let go of its holding on the subsidiary to a company called Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd.
In 2011, The Star reported that MKLSB had signed a 10-year concession agreement with the government worth RM50mil.
MKLSB is responsible for the operation, management and maintenance of MKL as well as its land, which is made up of five lots of federal land controlled by the Federal Land Commissioner.
According to Malaysiakini, former communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa said he was not involved in TM's decision to sell a subsidiary which managed the KL Tower.
Annuar said the deal was made on Oct 31 this year and involved a public-listed company, not the government.
