Stop sharing inflammatory FB remark from 2019, says Bukit Aman

PETALING JAYA: A Facebook comment touching on racial sensitivities that is being widely shared is an old one, says Bukit Aman.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Norsiah Mohd Saaduddin said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 27) that the comment was originally uploaded in August 2019 by an account under the name "Nazrul Nazari".

Investigations led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man on April 1 this year, she added.

Noraini then said that the suspect has been charged under the Penal Code as well as the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"The people are urged not to reshare the comment to cause provocation as such actions can disturb public order and racial harmony," DCP Norsiah added.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said earlier in the day that police had detected the potentially inflammatory comment being circulated.

Describing it as "old news", he warned users not to share it, saying that action would be taken against irresponsible parties who used social media to spread unrest.
