Kota Belud proposed as location for Sabah's second Industrial Training Institute

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Belud has been proposed as the location to build the second Industrial Training Institute (ILP) in Sabah.

Deputy Human Resources Minister Mustapa Sakmud (pic) said the proposal was still in the initial stage but the location was deemed to be suitable to handle increasing number of students in the existing ILP located at the state capital namely Kota Kinabalu.

Another existing nearby ILP is at Labuan federal territory (FT), he said on Wednesday (Dec 28).

“The new institute site is hoped to accommodate rising number of students from Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas and Ranau districts.

“They would have to travel less far without going to Kota Kinabalu or Labuan, thus it will be more ease for these upcoming students,” said the Sepanggar Member of Parliament.

In relation to that, he said it was something to be proud of when nearly all students of Kota Kinabalu ILP which mainly focuses on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), were able to gain employment after finishing their studies.

“We also suggested that the ILP students who completed their studies will continue to diploma level at the institute,” he added.

On another development, Mustapa said the flood mitigation project for Sepanggar constituency is being carried out in stages but has urged Drainage and Irrigation Department to expedite those at hot spot areas.

He said among the main focus is involving the mitigation works at Sungai Rampayan that needed to be done as soon as possible to ensure the issue of flash floods along the river can be dealt.

Following a briefing and discussion with the Department officials earlier on Wednesday, Mustapa said he was informed on the latest status of flood mitigation works taking place in the constituency, and was told that the project will be fully completed but in stages, however he did not state any deadlines.

In relation to that, Mustapa urged villagers staying at the river reserve areas to take up the compensation offered and get relocated, so that the flood mitigation project can be carried out as planned.
