Mavcom is the right channel for complaints, Loke tells unhappy fliers

SEPANG: The right place for disgruntled air travellers to lodge complaints is the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He also said those who were unsatisfied with refunds for delayed or cancelled flights could also contact Mavcom.

Using the right channel would allow the relevant authority to look into complaints immediately, he said while noting that the Transport Minister's office was not the correct avenue for this.

He had been asked if the government could step in to make airlines pay cash refunds to passengers whose flights were delayed or cancelled.

"For delays, I'm not sure whether or not a refund is part of the terms and conditions," he told a press conference after the launch of a fixed-fare promotion event here on Wednesday (Dec 28).

"We have a system in place. We have an authority in charge of (such matters). So, Mavcom is the right channel and platform to lodge a complaint," he added.

Recent months have seen numerous complaints of flight delays and cancellations by budget airlines.

Affected passengers were also not satisfied with points or replacement tickets as compensation because they felt forced to continue flying with the same airline that inconvenienced them in the first place.
