Negri cops probe dumping of decorations with Quranic verses

NILAI: The police are looking for the culprits who dumped wall decorations with verses from the Quran in an industrial area here.

Acting district police chief Deputy Supt Mat Ghani Lateh said police found the decorations in the Arab Malaysian Industrial Area following a report lodged on Tuesday (Dec 27).

"We received a report from the Negri Sembilan Islamic Affairs Department at around 6.45pm and found the decorations there.

"We have started a probe and are looking for those responsible," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 28).

He added that the case was being probed under Section 298A of the Penal Code for prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion.

Offenders can be jailed between two and five years upon conviction.

He said those with information on the matter can call Insp Nor Syuhada Laftib at 06-790 4222.

DSP Mat Ghani said after discussing the matter with the state Islamic Affairs Department and Seremban City Council, it was decided that the decorations would be sent to the Pusat Dakwah Islam in Paroi to be disposed of properly.
