IPOH: The new Kampar Hospital is expected to be built within five years, says A. Sivanesan.
The Perak health committee chairman said the state had already identified a piece of land for the project.
“Talks on the new Kampar Hospital have been going on for years.
We have identified Kampung Changkat Baru for the construction,” he told a press conference at the state secretariat building following the state assembly sitting yesterday.
The plot, he added, was partly owned by the state with another 11 lots belonging to other individuals, with each lot costing about RM41,000.
“People in Kampar have been waiting for the hospital for years. I will make sure that the project will become a reality within five years,” he said.
Separately, Sivanesan said food sold at hospitals should be of good quality.
He said a study would be conducted at five hospitals, namely Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Hospital Taiping, Hospital Batu Gajah, Hospital Teluk Intan and Hospital Manjung, to check on the food, including the ingredients used and the nutrition content.
“Hospitals should be a place where healthy food is served,” he said, adding that he would be making surprise visits to the hospitals and their cafeterias.
Sivanesan said he would also make surprise visits to village clinics in the state to see whether some of these should be closed or remain open.
He noted that some village clinics, like the one at Batu 8, Tanjung Tualang, had low patient visits and limited services and would be closed permanently.
“This clinic only receives three or four patients daily.
“A request to close it has been made by the state Health Department, which has been approved by the Health Ministry,” he said, adding that the existing building would be used by the SK Tanjung Tualang medical team.
Sivanesan said the public there need not worry as the Tanjung Tualang health clinic was located about 5.4km from the village clinic.
