KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested two suspected members of a drug trafficking syndicate and seized more than 300kg of syabu worth RM11.5mil on Christmas Eve (Dec 24).
Kuala Lumpur deputy OCPD Deputy Comm Datuk Yahaya Othman said the men were arrested at a terrace house in Setiawangsa here during an operation code-named Ops Lambskin.
"Interrogation found that the suspects were 'caretakers' of the premises which had been turned into a storage facility for drugs," he told a press conference at city police contingent headquarters on Wednesday (Dec 28).
DCP Yahaya said the raiding team found 310 green and gold packs labelled "Chinese herbal tea" which contained the drugs, weighing 320kg in total.
He said it was the biggest drug haul in the city this year, with the drugs believed to have come from the east coast for distribution in the Klang Valley and surrounding areas.
DCP Yahaya said the syndicate had been active for about three months, based on the rental history of the house.
He said a car worth RM20,800 was also confiscated in the raid.
Preliminary investigations found that the first suspect, 29, worked as a car salesman and had a record of drug and criminal offences.
A urine test came back positive for drugs, DCP Yahaya added.
The second suspect, 34, worked as an online salesman and had one drug offence on his record but his urine test came back negative, he said.
"Both suspects have been remanded for seven days starting Dec 25 to assist investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added.
