KUANTAN: Pahang will prosper if all assemblymen work together harmoniously for the good of the state, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
He said Pahang needs to be developed on the basis of strong political stability so that state development can be carried out in an organised manner and the economic sector can be driven in a better direction for the well-being of the people.
"We need to move forward. As the state government, we will make every effort to implement what has been planned before, especially through the State Budget 2023 which has already been passed (on Oct 13).
"As for the opposition bloc, I hope they can carry out the function of check and balance as best as possible to ensure that the state continues to progress and remain competitive,” he said in his adjournment speech at the State Assembly sitting here today.
Wan Rosdy who led the Barisan Nasional-Pakatan Harapan unity state government after the 15th General Election (GE15) also reminded all assemblymen to always respect each other.
The result of the GE15 in Pahang saw no party securing the simple majority of 22 seats to form the state government after Barisan and Perikatan Nasional each obtained 17 seats, while Pakatan secured eight.
In his speech, Wan Rosdy also congratulated former Lanchang assemblymen Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin and Bilut assemblyman Lee Chin Chen for their appointment as 15h Pahang State Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.
Meanwhile, Mohd Sharkar in his maiden speech reminded all the 42 assemblymen to do their level best in performing their duties.
"When you go back to your respective state constituencies, do your level best to fulfil your pledges and your promises as stated in your manifesto for the general election as the people will judge us again when the time comes,” he said.
Apart from that, he said he also believed that the state’s unity government was created by prioritising the stability and prosperity of the state and the re-appointment of Wan Rosdy to lead the state government was based on its performance during the last term, including in recording a revenue exceeding RM1 billion and attracting investment of RM20.56 billion.
The sitting then adjourned sine die. - Bernama
