KL tower management warns public not to spread fake info

PETALING JAYA: The management of Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd will not hesitate to take legal action against any parties involved in the dissemination of false or defamatory information with regard to the tower, its owner Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd and their directors.

"We would like to assert that we take the spread of such false and/or defamatory information very seriously and will conduct further investigations into the same. Legal action will be taken against parties involved where we will claim losses and damages.

"We will also be engaging the Communications and Digital Ministry with regard to this matter to set the record straight," the company said in a statement on Friday (Dec 30).

It said all dealings with regard to Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd were above board and carried out with due diligence.

"We would like to seek the cooperation of social media users to stop sharing and/or spreading false information, making defamatory statements and speculation, intended to undermine the reputation and/or image of our companies and its directors," it added.

On Thursday (Dec 29), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said that it had summoned three people in connection with its investigation into allegations over the suspicious sale of shares involving the management ownership of the KL Tower.

It had also confirmed that there was an ongoing probe by MACC.

"The MACC will probe if there is an element of corruption in the sale of 100% shares of Telekom Malaysia in Syarikat Menara KL Sdn Bhd to Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd in October 2022.

"At the moment, MACC has summoned three witnesses and gotten several documents from the involved parties for scrutiny," said the commission in a statement.

On Dec 27, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said issues over the sale of the tower deserve scrutiny.

This came after issues involving the alleged sale of the tower had been raised on social media.
