Covid-19 Watch: 583 new cases, says Health Ministry


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 583 new Covid-19 infections on Friday (Dec 30), says the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry said through data released on its KKMNow portal on Saturday (Dec 31) that this brings the new total to 5,026,164 cases since the pandemic began.

Of the 583, there are seven imported cases and the remaining 576 are local.

The ministry also said through its KKMNow portal that there were 930 recoveries on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in Malaysia to 12, 322.

Of the active cases, 94.6% or 11,653 individuals are undergoing home quarantine, while 5.2% of active cases or 637 individuals need to be hospitalised, with 32 warded in intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country.

Of that number, 16 require ventilator support.
