Apad to meet school bus operators on Jan 3, says Loke

PETALING JAYA: The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) will hold a meeting with the school bus operators on Jan 3 to discuss several issues raised by them.

The matter was confirmed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke on Tuesday (Jan 2).

“Apad is meeting the associations,” he told The Star briefly.

Federation of Malaysian School Bus Associations president Amali Munif Rahmat had said that he wanted to meet Apad to discuss several issues faced by operators, which have been highlighted in the media.

Among the issues include the increase in overhead cost leading to the increase in school bus fares, lack of drivers and lack of buses.

Several bus operators have also urged the government to subsidise school bus fares to help those in the business sustain and provide services for children.

Meanwhile, Selangor, Putrajaya Dan Kuala Lumpur School Bus Association (PBSSPKL) president Mohd Haron Mohd Sidik had said that unlicensed bus operators and vehicles have also affected the industry.

He said that legal operators have to fork out more for compulsory vehicle inspections (Puspakom), insurance and other requirements while illegal ones were operating without adhering to any regulation.
