KUALA LUMPUR: A birthday gathering with his grandchildren last week will forever remain in Lokman Marni’s memory after the two siblings perished in a fire at a terrace house in Kampung Simpang Tiga, Gombak, early Monday (Jan 2) morning.
Lokman, 57, said Nur Syaza Alfisya Muhammad Faizan, nine, and her brother, Muhammad Al Qayyum, six, attended his birthday party in Sabak Bernam on Dec 26.

"That was the last time I met them. Everything seemed normal back then," he told reporters at the scene of the fire.
Lokman said he rushed to the location after being informed about the incident at 4am by his 28-year-old daughter, only to find her in a weakened state outside the house.
"My daughter is pregnant with her third child and couldn’t enter the house because her leg was injured after she stepped on glass. She was taken to Hospital Selayang for treatment,” he said.
Lokman said his daughter and her husband, 30, went out for a meal at 3am and left the two siblings at home.
