GEORGE TOWN: The famous roti canai stall in Jalan Transfer has been slapped with a two-week closure for failing hygiene standards.
It is learnt that health authorities from the north-east district Food Safety and Quality Department conducted an inspection of the premises at 11am yesterday.
They reportedly found faecal matter on chicken eggs and discovered stall workers who had not attended food-handling courses.
A closure notice was issued with immediate effect under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 and will be in force until Jan 16.
The owner of the stall was also slapped with a RM500 compound for failing to ensure that his workers attended the courses.
A drinks stall next to the outlet was also fined RM500 as cross-contamination was found in its ice storage unit.
Those dining at the stall seemed unperturbed by the presence of authorities and the hygiene issue.
Stall owner Shahjahan Abdul Hamid then apologised to the customers and adhered to the closure notice.
A video had been widely circulated on social media alleging that workers at the stall failed to practise good hygiene.
