JB cops raid unlicensed business for selling vape liquids online


JOHOR BARU: Police seized vape-related paraphernalia with an estimated value of RM1.55mil at 12.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 3) at a business premises near here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said police also detained two men and one woman, aged between 23 and 25, during Ops Bersepadu Kontraband.

"The suspects were caught at the business outlet located at Jalan Eco Perniagaan 1/2, Taman Eco Perniagaan," he said in a press conference at the Marine Police Region 2, headquarters in Tampoi near here on Wednesday (Jan 4).

Comm Kamarul said the 53,421 of seized items in 2,753 boxes were vape liquids worth RM1.29mil, gadgets and accessories valued at RM253,048.

He said the initial investigation showed the three suspects – all locals were workers at the outlet selling the vape-related items.

"The outlet has no licence as all local authorities in Johor do not issue licences for outlets selling vape-related items," said Comm Kamarul.

He said the outlet was used to store the vaping items and was selling them online, adding that police would conduct further investigation to determine how long the business had operated.

Comm said the operation was jointly organised by the Crime Investigation Departments of the Johor police and Johor Baru South police contingents and the Marine Police Region 2.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 13 (a) of the Poisons Act 1952 and all suspects have been remanded for three days starting from today (Jan 4) to assist with investigation.
