Penang a shooting spot for TVB film

GEORGE TOWN: With many beautiful heritage sites, it is to no surprise that foreign entertainment productions perceive Penang as one of their best shooting spots.

Hong Kong actor Philip Keung, 56, and Chinese artiste, Samantha Ko, 36, have been spotted in George Town earlier in December 2022 to shoot their film, Lock War.

On Wednesday (Jan 4), Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, state exco members Soon Lip Chee and Phee Boon Poh as well as several state assemblymen were spotted at the pre-shoot "blessing ceremony" here.

The movie revolves around the life of a locksmith, with him eventually discovering that no matter how skilled he is as a professional, there are some matters of the heart that cannot be "unlocked" using conventional means.

The movie, funded by award-winning actor Louis Koo, features Keung, Ko, Benz Hui Shiu Hung, 74, Raymond Wong, 47, as well as Malaysia-born actress Yumi Wong.

Keung was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his role in Shock Wave at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards.

Hui has starred in many notable roles and earned the nomination of best supporting actor in the 19th Hong Kong Film Awards.

Yumi Wong is best known for her role in the Chinese film, The Bloody Tale Of The Six Doors, and was also a nominee in TC Candler’s Top 100 Most Beautiful Faces for four consecutive years.

It is learnt that RM5mil was invested in the movie and it is expected to be released nationwide at the end of 2023.
