Python caught and released into the wild in Sibu

Two APM personnel got hold of the snake

SIBU: A five-foot-long python was caught by Civil Defense Force personnel after it frightened a family in Jalan Bandung on Wednesday (Jan 4).

A 41-year-old woman was cleaning the backyard of the family's home when she saw the python.

The woman quickly called up the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) for help.

Sibu District Civil Defense Force officer Lt. M (PA) Franklin Blikau said his side received an emergency call from the woman at 10.29am.

He said two APM members were directed to the scene of the incident to catch the reptile.

"Arriving at the scene, APM members found a five-foot-long python still in a pile of wood behind the complainant's house," he said.

Franklin said it took them about five minutes to catch the snake.

"The python was then taken to the Sibu District APM Office before being released in its original habitat, which is in a safe forested area and away from the population," he added.
