Regretful over slapping act

MELAKA: The coach behind the slapping incident has made an open apology to all volleyball players in the country and say he is willing to accept any action taken against him.

Hadee Awang, 44, said he regretted his action in slapping the teenage players and has no qualms if the relevant sports bodies want to punish him.

“I admit to doing the act in order to motivate the teenagers.

“I have my own approach in training my athletes, including psychological and physical methods,” he said when met with state youth, sports and non-governmental organisation committee chairman VP Shanmugam at the Melaka Sports Council in Krubong yesterday

The teenagers were also present at the meeting.

Hadee said he would not be a coach without the trainees and that he was truly sorry for the incident.

He also apologised to the parents of both teenagers and all volleyball associations in the country.

Recently, a video showing a coach of a volleyball team slapping two of his teen players went viral on social media.

The incident is believed to have occurred at the 2022 Malaysia Youth U-14 Volleyball Championship in Kota Tinggi, Johor, which was held from Dec 14 to 16 last year.
