PETALING JAYA: Residents in Kelana Jaya are frustrated with the repeated power outages in the area, some of which lasted for hours in the night.
Three days ago, the customer service arm of power utility Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) Careline posted on its Facebook page that there were electricity supply disruptions in the Petaling Jaya area due to problems at the main distribution substation in Kelana Jaya.
Apologising for the inconvenience, it said its technical team was on site to carry out repairs.
However, many people took to Facebook to express their frustration over more supply disruptions that continued on Thursday.
“Kelana Jaya is experiencing its 4th major outage in 48 hours, with the longest lasting 2.5 hours, and we’re 1.5 hours into the current outage,” said Facebook user CH Tan, calling the service “ridiculous in an urban setting”.
Another user Janet Raj wrote: “Power outage again in Kelana Jaya now since 10.45pm. Last time outage just on early morning Jan 2, 2023. What’s going on?”
“Power restored just now only for it to go off again after less than a minute! It’s almost 2.30am!!!”
Kumar Thurai said: “Already 2 hours no power in SS3. Just 2 days ago same problem. Every year at least twice this happens. Don’t you do regular maintenance?”
Khairul Nizam Mukhtar asked sarcastically if everyone in Kelana Jaya had forgotten to pay their electricity bills.
SS3 Residential Association chairman Wong Wai Hung said the outage started on Jan 4 at 11pm with the power resuming at 2am.
He said after half an hour, the power was out again, only to come back on after two hours.
Another resident, who only wanted to be known as Choi, said he too had experienced periodic outages in his housing area.
“Going by the two occurrences over the past two days and feedback from consumers on the TNBCareline Facebook, it would seem to have been occurring rather frequently in the past week in other areas in Kelana Jaya,” he said.
He also said the outage did not seem to affect certain houses, sometimes along the same street where outages occur.
In response, TNB said it was still investigating the cause of the outage.
“The areas affected were those around Kelana Jaya only.
“The disruption was restored in stages, with the first one at 11am on Jan 4.
“The final and full restoration was achieved at 2.01am on Jan 5,” said the utility company.
