KOTA KINABALU: The Fire and Rescue Department assisted a climber from Finland, who suffered from muscle cramps, to safely descend Mount Kinabalu in Kundasang on Monday (Jan 9).

The department's Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) unit received a report at 4.25pm from a mountain guide that the foreign climber suffered cramps on both legs and was unable to continue the activity at KM2.6.

“The Mosar team went to the scene and after inspecting the victim, carried him down via piggyback with a stretcher.

“The victim was handed over to the respective travel agent after arriving at the Timpohon gate (Mount Kinabalu entrance) for further treatment,” said the Fire and Rescue spokesman.

The operation ended at 7.01pm.
