Elderly man killed, wife injured in four-vehicle crash near Slim River

IPOH: An accident occurred at KM358.7 of the North-South expressway involving four vehicles, killing an elderly man on the spot.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said in the 5.25pm incident near Slim River on Monday (Jan 9), a Plus Ronda Hilux had stopped at the emergency lane heading north to assist the driver of a car that experienced a flat tyre.

However, he said another vehicle driven by a 70-year-old man suddenly came crashing into the Plus Ronda vehicle, resulting in the Hilux hitting the stalled car.

“Due to the impact of the crash, the car driven by the elderly man swerved into the right lane of the expressway, which was then hit by another car.

“The 70-year-old man died at the scene, while his 59-year-old wife sustained head injuries and was brought to the Slim River Hospital for treatment.

“Drivers and passengers of the other three vehicles did not sustain any injuries.

“The body of the man has been brought to the Tapah Hospital for post-mortem,” he added.

Comm Mohd Yusri said those with information have been urged to come forward to assist the police by contacting investigating officer Insp Ruzainal Aman Ruslan at 012-450 0968.
