KL Monorail services disrupted on Jan 9 due to faulty switch

PETALING JAYA: Train services along the KL Monorail line have been disrupted due to a faulty switch, says RapidKL.

It said the technical issue, which occurred at about 4.30pm on Monday (Jan 9), caused the train to stop longer than usual at the KL Sentral station heading towards Titiwangsa.

“Shuttle trains have since been activated for the following stations along the monorail line – KL Sentral to Hang Tuah; Hang Tuah to Bukit Nanas; and Bukit Nanas to Titiwangsa,” it said on Twitter on Monday evening.

It also advised monorail users to use alternate means of public transport when heading to their destinations including the Kelana Jaya, Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT lines and the MRT lines.

In a later tweet at 5.44pm, RapidKL said train frequencies were close to resuming operations as scheduled.

On Thursday (Jan 5), the Kelana Jaya LRT line also experienced significant delays owing to a track switch malfunction, resulting in trains moving slowly and stopping for longer periods at many stations.

A railroad switch is a mechanical installation that enables trains to be guided from one track to another, which on the Kelana Jaya line should be fully automated.

To reduce congestion at the stations, free shuttle services were provided between the KLCC, Ampang Park, Damai, Dato’ Keramat, Jelatek and Setiawangsa stations.
