SIBU: The Rajang Port Authority (RPA) recorded after-tax profit of RM10mil for the 2022 financial year, a 117% jump from RM4.6mil the previous year.
"In the past five years, RPA's total throughput has recorded average growth of 6.5% annually," its general manager Datin Helen Lim said at the RPA annual dinner on Tuesday (Jan 10).
She noted that the after-tax profit in 2019 was RM740,000, going up to RM2.2mil in 2020.
"Even during the movement control order in 2020, we actually achieved an increase in total throughput of 8.4% over 2019," she added.
In terms of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) container throughput, she said RPA had recorded a 10% average annual increase over the last five years.
RPA chairman Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said it was encouraging to see the port recording steady profits despite challenging times, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said the port had received international recognition in the form of awards such as the Best Managed Riverine Port at the Lang International Corporate Titan Awards; and the Corporate Excellence Award at the Asia Pacific Enterprise Awards where Lim also received the Master Entrepreneur accolade.
"The general manager also received an award for excellence in leadership at the 19th Asia Pacific Entrepreneur Nobel Records awards," he added.
