'Madness' to stop people from contesting top two Umno posts, says Khairy

PETALING JAYA: It is "madness" to stop people from contesting the Umno president and deputy president's posts in the upcoming party polls, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

“Stop this madness. I think the president (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) is a fighter who does not fear taking on challengers.

"Make room for contests. Don’t kill off democracy in Umno,” he said in an Instagram post on Thursday (Jan 12).

The former Umno Youth chief is among those who have been vocal in calling for the two posts to be contested.

His response comes in the wake of a group of Umno divisional leaders who are against the posts being contested in the party elections.

The group claims to have the support of 140 divisions.

Khairy had previously voiced his opposition to the posts being left uncontested in the party polls.
