CONTROVERSIAL singer-rapper Namewee (pic) had a beer bottle thrown at him once when he cracked a joke about dementia, reported China Press.
The Muar native saw the funny side of an incident where he said the wrong thing at the wrong time when appearing as guest at a Taiwanese variety show recently.
He recounted a “dangerous” encounter while performing at a folk music restaurant.
“I was telling a joke, ‘Moving your left hand stimulates the right brain and moving your right hand stimulates the left brain – so, clapping your hands will help to prevent dementia’,” he quipped.
Right after he gave the punchline, he saw a bottle flying towards him from the crowd. It was from a granny in her 80s who might have been hurt by the joke.
In another incident, Namewee said he was complaining about a senior without realising that the latter’s son was at his side.
”My manager whispered in my ear and said, ‘His son is your security guard, he has been here all this while’,” he added.
Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, has courted much controversy in his 15-year career in the entertainment industry due to his use of provocative themes in his work.
In 2021, he was banned from Chinese cyberspace after releasing a satirical tune poking fun at social issues in China including the controversial issues in Xinjiang and, ironically, the nation’s censorship level.
> Sin Chew Daily reported that Taiwanese actor Kai Ko, who received more than 30 stitches after a drone fell on his face on set, announced that he would resume filming soon.
“I will be back very soon,” Ko posted on Instagram along with a picture of Hanamichi Sakuragi, the main character of beloved basketball manga Slam Dunk.
It was reported that a drone, which was capturing a close-up of the 31-year-old star for the upcoming Netflix blockbuster Agent From Above, a Taiwanese fantasy series, had smashed into his face during shooting on Dec 27, last year.
In the series, which started filming in November last year, the actor plays a former drug addict-turned-medium recruited to do the bidding of a Chinese deity.
Ko is best known for his breakout role in the Taiwanese coming-of-age movie You Are the Apple of My Eye (2011), which won him Best New Actor at the Golden Horse Awards.
