Restaurant workers suffer burns in kitchen fire


KOTA KINABALU: Three restaurant workers suffered burns when a fire broke out at a kitchen in Kinabatangan on Friday (Jan 13).

The victims, two men aged 20 and 44 as well as a woman, 44, suffered burns and were taken to the hospital for treatment before a fire engine arrived, said the Fire and Rescue Department.

The department received a report about the incident at Restoran Cafe 45, Kampung Gumantong Jaya at 3.19pm.

"The fire was put out by public members before the fire engine arrived.

"The team conducted an inspection to ensure there was no more risk and the operation ended at 4.24pm," said the spokesman.

In a separate case in Kota Belud on Friday, firemen responded to a case where a man was hit and injured by a fallen tree in an orchard.

The victim, Jaimi Madin, 45, sustained a broken leg while cutting trees in Kampung Pomotodon, Jalan Ranau.

The department received the report at 11.47am and the team gave first aid to the victim before carrying him to safety with a stretcher.

"The victim was taken to hospital for further treatment and the operation ended at 1.55pm," said the spokesman.
