RM232mil needed to fix flood damage

PENDANG: A total of RM232mil is needed to repair the infrastructure and public facilities damaged in the recent floods that hit several states in Peninsular Malaysia.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pic) said most of the damages occurred in the East Coast states, with repairs costing RM196mil.

“A lot of them involve collapsed slopes and broken pavements. Repairs are underway, and the duration of work depends on the extend of damage.

“The slopes will take some time because a lot of technical work is involved,” he told reporters after handing over the Pendang Hospital project to the Health Ministry yesterday, Bernama reported.

Also present was the Tunku Mahkota of Kedah, Tunku Shazuddin Ariff Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin, and Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

Nanta also stated that a meeting would be held today between the Malaysian Highways Authority (LLM) and Plus Malaysia Bhd to discuss the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology on highways.

“LLM and Plus will discuss what steps should be taken,” he said, insisting that the use of RFID would continue.
