Umno officially kicks off general assembly


KUALA LUMPUR: Umno’s official flag “Sang Saka Bangsa”, has been hoisted marking the opening of the party’s general assembly on Friday (Jan 13).

The tradition that took place at Menara Dato’ Onn building compound started with the three Umno wings - Youth, Wanita and Puteri - raising their flags before party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Clad in a red baju Melayu, Ahmad Zahid alongside deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan raised the flag accompanied by the party’s official song Bersatu, Bersetia, Berkhidmat.

Ahmad Zahid will be delivering his presidential address later followed by debates from delegates.

The assembly will be attended by a total of 2,822 representatives where there will also be 174 observers.

An extraordinary general meeting to amend the party’s constitution will also take place today.

The general assembly commenced on Wednesday (Jan 11) with the Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings' meetings and will end tomorrow (Jan 14).
