KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno general assembly's decision to approve the no-contest motion for the top two party posts follows the party's constitution and regulations, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president said after the motion was passed, the matter was referred to Umno legal advisors.

Asked if the decision could be reversed, Ahmad Zahid said it was final as the Umno general assembly is the party's highest decision-making body.

On members who may still want to challenge the two posts, Ahmad Zahid said: "We will leave it to the disciplinary board to address the issue. The chairman is also our legal advisor."

The disciplinary board will also address Khairy Jamaluddin's claim that said there were delegates "imported" to ensure the motion was approved.

"That is another issue to be discussed by the disciplinary board," he told reporters on Saturday (Jan 14).

The former youth wing chief had alleged that there was a conspiracy to "bulldoze" the motion in order for it to be approved at the general assembly.

"It is important that delegates do not carry out the 'Dewan Merdeka Move' to kill democracy (within Umno) and deny the voices of the grassroots to determine the future of the party and to pick who is qualified to lead," he had said in a video posted on TikTok.
