SHAH ALAM: The Chinese New Year Lantern and Floral Festival at Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple will be held from Jan 19 to Feb 5.

At least 500,000 people are expected to join in the festival, which would be opened from 10am to 10pm, said deputy abbess of Fo Guang Shan Petaling Jaya SS3, the Venerable Ru Xing.

She said the entire 6.47ha area of the temple, located in Jenjarom in Kuala Langat near here, would be decorated with a theme inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

She added that the festival would also feature a 9.14m-tall rabbit lantern, to honour the Year of the Rabbit.

“The festival has received great attention from the public all these years, and this time, we will try our best to bring a different experience to people,” she said in a statement on Friday, Bernama reported.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Transport Minister Anthony Loke and National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Aro Dagang are expected to attend the event’s opening ceremony on Jan 19, she added.
