KULAI: Recipients of PerantiSiswa tablets should not sell them to third parties, says Communications and Digital Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching.
"Previously, the Ministry (then known as the Communications and Multimedia Ministry) received about 13 cases as of November last year but so far we have yet to receive any new cases about the tablets being sold," she added.
"I hope that there will not be any cases after this as the tablets are meant to help those in the B40 category," said Teo.
She said this when met after handing over some 1,090 PerantiSiswa tablets to students from 13 learning institutions here at SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra here on Sunday (Jan 15).
She told students not to sell the tablets and to take into consideration others who were unable to get the devices.
"This is an initiative to help those in the B40 category and it is handed out based on application from the students.
"For them to apply, it shows that they really needed it and they should not be selling it to others," she said.
"If they already have tablets at home, then they should not apply and let others get it instead. I hope that students can be wise about this and make the right choice," added Teo.
She said some 362,016 applications for the tablets have been approved and 301,737 have already been distributed.
"There are about 17% of applicants that have yet to receive it and we hope to distribute it as soon as possible," she said.
