Focus on upgrading health facilities

SEGAMAT: The upgrading of facilities at government hospitals and healthcare centres will be the Health Ministry’s focus in the coming Budget 2023, says its minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

This included facilities in Sabah and Sarawak, she said.

“There are two expenses under the ministry – development and operational. So far, we have received half of what has been allocated by the government.

“The government is expected to table Budget 2023 in the next Parliament meeting. From there, we will know how much we will receive – either less or the same as previously decided.

“We hope that the Budget will help us in moving these two things forward,” she said after a Chinese New Year meet-and-greet session at U Sentral Segamat in Taman Bandar Utama here yesterday.

Dr Zaliha said the Prime Minister had given his word that the allocation for the Health Ministry would not be compromised.

“We have not planned for any new hospitals, but will instead focus on the ongoing development and upgrading of all facilities under the Health Ministry,” she added.

Budget 2023 is expected to be tabled in Parliament on Feb 24 after the first one was presented but never passed because Parliament was dissolved, paving the way for the 15th General Election last November.
