KLANG: Selangor PAS believes that Perikatan Nasional will be able to wrest the state from Pakatan Harapan in the upcoming state election.
Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said Perikatan had a good chance of taking over the state even though this was being denied by Pakatan.
“This confidence is based on several current developments and factors,’’ said Dr Ahmad Yunus in a statement on Monday (Jan 16).
He claimed the people of Selangor were fed up with Pakatan and this was indicated via the ballot box recently.
Dr Ahmad Yunus pointed out that Perikatan now had six parliamentary seats in Selangor and that Umno did not even win one in the state.
Pakatan lost the Hulu Selangor, Kapar and Kuala Langat seats to PAS whilst Umno lost the Tanjong Karang seat to Bersatu.
The Sabak Bernam and Sungai Besar seats were retained by Bersatu candidates.
“Pakatan is seen as not having the ability to carry an image expected by the people in administering the state.
“In addition, they (Pakatan) are willing to work with Barisan which they had attacked as being kleptocrats and incapable all this while,’’ he said.
Dr Ahmad Yunus added people were unable to see any solution from Pakatan, for problems such as the cost of living, job opportunities, housing, flooding, management of slopes and
highland, water contamination, infrastructural needs and Internet coverage.
“The people of Selangor want a state government which is capable and with integrity that can help to take care of their needs as well as initiate development in the state,’’ he said.
Dr Ahmad Yunus added people were not interested in a populist state government which liked to make promises but failed to help the people.
“It is because of these factors and the green wave that brought a big win for PAS and Perikatan in the recent general election, including votes from the young electorate, that PAS is confident in taking over the state government with Perikatan,” he said.
In the 2018 14th General Election, PAS did not even win one parliamentary seat whilst Umno won the Sabak Bernam and Tanjong Karang seats.
But this was reduced to just one seat when the then Sabak Bernam MP Mohamad Fasiah Mohd Fakeh jumped to Bersatu.
Following this, Bersatu had two parliamentary seats with the other one being Sungai Besar.
For the state seats, PAS only won the Sijangkang seat through Dr Ahmad Yunus whilst Bersatu won six seats and Umno four out of the 56 state seats.
But Umno managed to add one more after it won the Semenyih seat in a by-election after the Bersatu incumbent Bakhtiar Mohd Nor passed away.
The rest of the seats were all held by Pakatan.
