Cash aid programme for B40 renamed

PUTRAJAYA: The cash aid programme for the B40 income group has been renamed Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), with the first phase of payment to be made today, announced Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister stated that the government has decided to release the payment earlier than the original March deadline in order to alleviate the burden of rising living costs on the people.

The first phase of STR, involving a total of RM1.67bil to be distributed to 8.7 million people in the B40 group, will be credited to the accounts of the registered recipients beginning today.

“The unity government has adopted the rahmah (caring) approach in looking after the welfare of those who are facing difficulties, especially the vulnerable groups,” he said yesterday.

Of the 8.7 million recipients, four million are eligible to receive RM300, costing the government RM1.2bil.

A total of 1.2 million senior citizens without spouses and some 3.5 million single individuals will get RM100 each.

The STR recipients in rural areas, including Sabah and Sarawak, will also be paid the cash aid on the same date, whether or not they have bank accounts.

Those who are eligible for the payment can check their status at https://bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my.
