Alor Setar cops nab man who tried to steal 4WD after asking for a test drive

ALOR SETAR: The police took three hours to track down and arrest a man who had made off with a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle from a used car dealer in Jalan Langgar here on Wednesday (Jan 18).

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said the 43-year-old suspect had visited the dealer at about 10.30am on Wednesday and said that he wanted to buy a 4WD vehicle.

The unsuspecting owner allowed the man to test drive the vehicle but he drove off with it instead of coming back to the dealership.

"The police managed to track down the suspect while he was driving the 4WD at a traffic light intersection in Pendang at 1.30pm," ACP Ahmad Shukri told Sinar Harian.

He added that the suspect had tried to flee with the vehicle but had been cut off by a police car and arrested.

He said the suspect was brought back to the Kota Setar district police headquarters and the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
