A TRADER in Pasar Berek, Kelantan, is still able to make a living despite continuing to sell her traditional cek mek molek kuih at only 10 sen a piece, Kosmo! reported.

Rahimah Zakaria, 46, said she could afford to sell the popular local snack at such a low price due to her hard work and smart financial planning.

“I make my cek mek molek smaller than the usual size to cater to customers who enjoy smaller bites. This allows me to sell them at a much more affordable price,” said Rahimah, who also takes bulk orders for frozen versions of the popular snack.

To ensure the popularity of her kuih, the single mother would only fry small batches throughout the day.

“This is to ensure that the snacks are always fresh, hot and crispy for my customers to enjoy,” she said.

The cek mek molek kuih is made from sweet potatoes. Rahimah wakes up at 5am daily to mix the sweet potatoes with other ingredients.

She said she began selling her snacks two years ago after the death of her husband, using the income to support her two schoolgoing children.

> Berita Harian reported that up-and-coming actor and singer Naim Daniel, 26, is looking to expand his repertoire by starting a band in the near future.

The rising star said he decided to start a band with four of his musician friends as a way to break out of his mould and gain new experiences in his youth.

“I have already been recognised as a good solo singer and composer, but now my goal is to transfer my achievements to a band.

“I’m the kind of person who doesn’t like to sit in my comfort zone for too long. So, I set out to do something that I never thought I would do or have any experience with,” he added.

Naim said although his band aspirations actually began last year, he could only make good on his goal recently, adding that they had yet to decide on a band name.

“We only sat down and seriously discussed the band project recently. It was only after we got together to practise with me as the vocalist that I felt we were ready for our debut,” he said.

Naim said he plans to introduce the other band members during their debut performance at the Patah Hati Concert on March 15.
