Perak extends local councillors' services till Feb 15 pending new appointments


IPOH: The services of all Perak local government councillors will be extended until Feb 15, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Mentri Besar said this included councillors from the Ipoh City Council, as well as other municipal and district councils.

The state had issued a circular on Dec 31 announcing that the services of village heads and local government councillors would be terminated.

"The process to appoint the new councillors is still ongoing," Saarani said in a statement after the state executive council meeting here on Wednesday (Jan 18).

"It was also decided during the meeting that the appointments of new councillors will be effective from Feb 16."

On Tuesday (Jan 17), Saarani said the process of electing new village heads and local councillors had begun.

He said a meeting would be held among parties in the state unity government to nominate suitable candidates.
