KOTA KINABALU: A locally-produced documentary on Sabah’s diverse society will be screened at a cinema here this March.

The documentary entitled “KITA - Sabah Celebrating Diversity” will be screened at City Mall here and was produced entirely by local crew.

KITA was produced in collaboration with the Sabah Unity in Diversity Community Partners (SUIDCP) and funded by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).

SUIDCP chairman Datuk Dr K Mathavan said KITA projects the realities, values and aspirations of the people in embracing, celebrating and preserving cultural diversity in Sabah.

He said the one hour-45 minute documentary consists of three separate but interrelated sections.

“The documentary followed the real life stories of 10 ordinary Sabahans and through their lenses, we experience the strength, beauty and deliciousness of our diverse society," said Mathavan.

“The entire production took nearly two years to complete, including 10 months of shooting throughout 15 locations in Sabah and Kuala Lumpur,” he added in a statement on Thursday (Jan 19).

Mathavan said the SUIDCP hopes the values of moderation, tolerance and acceptance of diversity will continue to be upheld by everyone.

“We pray for stability and a deeper level of unity among our leaders to steer Sabah to reach its full potential towards economic progress for the benefit and well-being of all Sabahans,” he said.

SUIDCP is a non-profit and non-partisan collaborative network of local faith and community-based organisations that work together to promote unity in diversity on project basis.

It works with any like-minded organisations and/or individuals that subscribe to its objectives which among others are to preserve, promote and celebrate Sabah’s unity and rich religious and cultural diversity.

The group also aims to facilitate closer collaboration among different religious and cultural communities in helping each other to address their own or common social challenges.
