Two security guards held for allegedly beating man to death

BANTING: Police arrested two security guards for allegedly beating a local man to death during a fight near a grocery shop around Olak Lempit, near here, last week.

Kuala Langat District Police chief Supt Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh said investigations found that the fight, which occurred on Jan 11, broke out when the victim, who worked as a lorry attendant, was suspected of distributing drugs in the area at about 10.45pm.

He said several people who saw it then assaulted the 24-year-old man with blunt objects before other members of the public who witnessed the beating reported the matter to the police.

"On arrival at the scene, police found a bag containing 10 packets of syabu weighing 3.93 grammes with an estimated value of RM2,000 carried by the victim.

"The victim was then taken to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR).

"However, on Monday (Jan 16), the hospital authorities said the victim died at about 2.15am due to strong blows to the head," he told a media conference here on Thursday (Jan 19).

Ahmad Ridhwan said following the incident, a team of police officers and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters tracked down the suspects and arrested a local man around the Banting area at about 2.15 am on Jan 13 and another local man in the same area on Monday (Jan 16).

He said that upon inspection, one of them was found to have a criminal record related to drug cases.

He added that both the security guards, aged 41 and 31, have been remanded for six days until Jan 23 and the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He explained that police were still looking for the other suspects. - Bernama
