Woman, boyfriend arrested over death of her toddler son

SEPANG: A young woman and her boyfriend were detained in connection with the death of her son at a condominium in Cyberjaya.

It is learnt that the 20-year-old woman, who worked as a clerk at a private company, was in the process of divorcing her husband after almost two years of marriage.

Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the suspect claimed that the victim had fallen off the sofa before he was sent to Hospital Cyberjaya for treatment on Jan 12.

"The victim - a one-and-a-half-year-old boy - was unconscious when he was sent to the hospital.

"Initial checks by a doctor revealed that both of the victim's eyes were bleeding due to suspected abuse and he was in critical condition," he told a press conference at the Sepang district police headquarters on Thursday (Jan 19).

ACP Wan Kamarul Azran said police received a report from Hospital Cyberjaya's medical team on Sunday (Jan 15) after the child passed away.

"Upon receiving the police report, we tried to contact the victim's mother, who is the main suspect.

"However, she neither could be contacted nor was she at the residential address given to the police," he said.

Further investigations led police to raid a flat in Putra Perdana, Dengkil, on Jan 16 where the woman was arrested, he said.

"The boyfriend was also arrested on the same day," he added.
