Joint CNY do to be held in KK on Jan 23

KOTA KINABALU: A Chinese New Year gathering jointly hosted by the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) and the state government will be held on Monday (Jan 23).

The event, at the Hakka Banquet Hall in Tanjung Lipat here, will begin at noon.

FCAS president Tan Sri TC Goh said the guest of honour would be Sabah Governor Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

He said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as well as the Consul General of China in Kota Kinabalu, Huang Shi-fang, would also attend as special guests.

Goh, who is also Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) president, said on Friday (Jan 20) that FCAS recently paid a courtesy call on the Chief Minister to brief him on the event.

Hajiji, who accepted the invitation on the spot, also allocated a special grant of RM500,000 in support of the event, he added.

Also present during the courtesy call were FCAS vice presidents Fung Chun Fatt and Lim Vun Chan, treasurer-general Chen Ee Sheng, and political secretary to the Chief Minister Ceasar Mandela Malakun.

Goh said the coming Chinese New Year gathering was the second grand Lunar New Year programme organised by FCAS this month.

The first was the 2023 Chinese New Year Carnival at Gaya Street here, organised in collaboration with Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), from Jan 15 to 18.

The state government had also allocated RM150,000 for that event.

Goh expressed the association's gratitude to the state government for its continuous support of the Chinese community in Sabah.
