Ampang cops nab husband and wife over car break-in, theft

KUALA LUMPUR: A husband and wife duo were arrested for their involvement in breaking into and stealing items from a parked car.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak, in a statement today (Jan 21), said that the police were notified of a theft on Jan 17 after several items were stolen from a victim's car in Taman Bukit Teratai.

Losses were estimated to be RM600, and the stolen items included a handphone and a branded bag.

"On Jan 20 at 3pm, the police arrested a couple in Taman Tasek Tambahan for suspicions of being involved in the case.

"Investigations showed that the male suspect acted alone. It is believed that he was involved in as many as seven cases within the Ampang Jaya area," he said.

However, the wife was known to be aware of his criminal activities, using the profits to spend on daily essentials and drugs.

In total, police have identified that losses related to their activities amounted to RM20,000.

Both suspects were found with past police records for drug and criminal offences.

The modus operandi included the suspect targeting cars that had been parked in quiet places. He would then pick the locks of the car doors.

Both also tested positive for drugs, including for morphine and methamphetamine.
